Petersburg International Innovation Forum 2017: results

The 10th Anniversary St.Petersburg International Innovation Forum and the 21st International Forum "Russian Industrialist", which were held in the CEC "Expoforum" from September 20 to 22, are over. This year the PIIF 2017 partners were JSC "MC" Rosnano "and JSC" Sberbank ".

The main event of the PIIF 2017 business program was the Plenary session on "Innovative Ecosystems and Technological Priorities". The event was opened by the Governor of St. Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko and the Chairman of the Management Board of Rusnano Management Company Anatoly Chubais. The head of the city said that St. Petersburg is consistently among the top three leaders in the rating of innovative regions of Russia. "Innovations are very important for the city, the basis of economic development of which is the manufacturing industry," - the Governor said. He noted that a modern infrastructure has been created in the Northern capital, which contributes to the development of innovative projects. The technopark, recognized as one of the best in Europe, is a business incubator that helps start-ups.

Vice-president of the Center for Strategic Research Vladimir Knyaginin, director of the Latin American and Caribbean branch of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization Carlos Chanduvi Suarez, deputy mayor of Seoul (Republic of Korea) Liu Kyong-gi, rector of the ITMO University Vladimir Vasiliev, representatives of the leadership of the Tomsk and Arkhangelsk regions, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, the North-West Bank of Sberbank of Russia and the rectors of the leading St. Petersburg universities took part in a session. The moderator of the event was the president of the Moscow School of Management "Skolkovo" Andrei Sharonov.

During three days of the Forum, more than 45,000 people visited its platform, 128 business events of various topics and formats were held: seminars, conferences, round tables, master-classes, presentations.

In PIIF 34 regions of Russia and 22 foreign countries were represented (almost in two times more than in 2016): Bulgaria, Great Britain, Germany, Georgia, Israel, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, China, Lithuania, Republic of Korea, Singapore, USA, Taiwan, Finland , Czech Republic, Denmark, Belgium, Belarus, Sweden, Italy, Spain and Armenia.

A number of cooperation agreements were signed at the Forum, including an agreement between the Government of St. Petersburg and the Finnish company Vilakone Oy, tripartite agreements between the St. Petersburg government, employers and trade unions, an agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between St. Petersburg and the Slovak Republic and many others.

Traditionally, the ceremony of awarding the St. Petersburg Government's "Best Innovative Product" award was held within the Forum. The best of the best received honored awards from the hands of the governor of St. Petersburg, Poltavchenko G. In the context of the event, 15 companies in 3 nominations presented their innovative products: "Mechanical engineering and energy", "Medicine, biotechnology and pharmaceutics" and "Information technology and radio electronics". In addition, on the second day of the Forum, the vice-governor of St. Petersburg, Igor Albin and the director of the Latin America and Caribbean United Nations Industrial Development Division, Carlos Chanduvi Suarez, awarded the laureates of the Innovation in the Urban Environment contest. Within the PIIF 2017 the Final of the Business Ideas Competition, Scientific and Technical Developments and Research Projects was held under the motto "Young, Daring, Prospective".

On the platform of the Matchmaking Area this year more than 600 meetings were held with the participation of representatives of 250 companies and enterprises. For the sixth year the work of the Interregional Exchange of Intellectual Property caused great interest among the participants. The work of the Forum in 2017 was covered by more than 100 journalists from 35 federal, regional and international mass media.
