"Lean production" in Russia: myth or reality?

On the final day of the X St. Petersburg International Innovation Forum, a master class was held dedicated to the problem of shortage of skilled workers, organized by the National Center for Productivity and the Committee for Labor and Employment of St. Petersburg. His moderator, General Director of the Center Sergey Smirnov, spoke about the subtleties of assessing the quality of the work of a specialist in terms of not his professional training, but from the position of developing his skills - those abilities that the employee acquires already during the work process.

On his opinion, the employee, the personnel of the company creates the value of products or services. At the same time, 70% of the contribution to the success of a particular project depends on the newly acquired specialist skills. "Often people without education have a greater coefficient of efficiency than graduates," said Sergey. - At the first owing to circumstances much more auxiliary skills are developed, while the person, who has received a specific specialty, thinks in one-line. Unfortunately, at most enterprises, the leadership not only does not develop these additional skills, but does not even analyze it, putting narrow, specific goals for the employee. "

The expert used the Toyota plant as an example, where there is still no automated management system, and at the same time the company's products are considered to be one of the best in their field in the world. "The scientific organization of labor or the automation of work processes can be called differently, - says Sergei Smirnov. - In any case, this is the loss of working time for both staff and management of the company. The key link here is not even the head, but the staff service, which from the moment of the employee's exit to work is obliged to start teaching him the work, and not fulfilling his duties according to instructions. The latter is a dead-end path that will increasingly separate us from the transition to the so-called "lean production" format.
