Tampere and St Petersburg Sign Cooperation Agreement during The Innovation Forum

Today EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Centre hosted a solemn opening ceremony of the St Petersburg International Innovation Forum. Right after that, a Cooperation agreement was signed by the Government of St Petersburg and the government of Tampere (Finland). The document was signed by Georgy Poltavchenko, the Mayor of St Petersburg, and Anna-Kaisa Ikonen, the Mayor of Tampere.

Mr. Poltavchenko noted that there is a great history of cooperation between Russia and Finland already. He also reminded that Tampere is among the top innovative capitals of Scandinavia, and the first city to be electrified in the Northern Europe. St Petersburg, in turn, is a recognized industrial and educational centre of Russia, and it is going to develop its international cooperation in these areas.

Mrs. Ikonen, the Mayor of Tampere, told that the Finnish delegation actively participates in the events of the St Petersburg International Innovation Forum, and that she is certain that the collaboration will be fruitful. It will affect, among other areas, the joint research programs by the Tampere University and St Petersburg educational facilities. The joint programs involve specialists from the Pavlov First St Petersburg State Medical University and the Almazov North-Eastern Federal Medical Research Centre.  In addition to that, the cross-border collaboration program will have St Petersburg and Tampere specialists participate in smart city and innovative environment development.

The St Petersburg International Innovation Forum will continue till October 9.
